How is it possible that the last nonstop flight on a Thursday leaves at 5:40 pm?

Ended up switching down to midway, where there is only one nonstop flight, at 9:15, which could be worse, but still. These are two substantially sized cities, how are there this few nonstops on a Thursday night...

Because passengers leaving O’Hare after dark are guaranteed to be carjacked and murdered?

But it won’t be on a 737-200 Advanced.

I went for the oldest looking paint scheme I could find in single image search. I’m happy with the result

I didn’t know they had an airport in Surrey!

Midway is closer to the south side, more likely to have issues there haha

That being said, I’m not taking the train lines out of either of the airports late at night.

In my experience, which consists of flying from PHL to ORD a grand total of 1 time, there were not many direct flights available.

PHL isn’t much of a hub, but ORD is, so you’d think there would be more options.

It kinda bugs me that there aren’t essentially 24 hour flight coverages. Like, I’d love to fly Philly to LAX departing at 3am or LAX to Philly leaving at midnight so you don’t miss the whole day.

You need to fly FedEx or UPS then

Philly is a US Airways city, Chicago is primarily United. That probably has a lot to do with it.

Sounds like you chose Southwest, which is 10x better than either of those other two asswipe companies, even on their worst day.

For personal travel absolutely, their points program just isnt as good for business travel though.

Also, I’m going to majorly date you because of your use of “US Airways”

But you are right, most, maybe all, of the nonstops out of ORD were American.

You got me there!

USAir was the longstanding old name, USAirways was the new. The AA purchase was just a recent thing, most of the routes and planes are still USAirways (just read the seatback literature!). I had just learned to stop saying USAir when AA took over.

I guess I still think of routes in terms of their original carriers since they usually stick around for long after the company changes hands.

Spot on with your last point. I grew up being majorly involved with Northwest being out of Detroit, hell my Dad has flown like 1.5 million miles between NW and Delta.

Even after the Delta merger DTW was and still is a major hub for them. So in other words, I was spoiled with non-stops.

I remember the days when the pilots would lock the brakes, spool up the engines, then pop the brakes. It really gave you a kick in the pants. Fun stuff.

Passenger jets used to look so nice before they started extending them and fitting them with massive turbofans.

Philly is kind of a small airport when it comes to actually flying places. I used to live halfway between PHL and EWR. I ALWAYS chose PHL when it was an option but it rarely was since SOOOO many more flights go out of Newark. For your Chicago example, I am sure United alone operates more than 1 per hour 24/7 out of there. Then other airlines add up to many more.

Depends where you’re going in Chicago (or the burbs) to say which would be better, or worse, or if they’d be the same.

Either way, it’s somewhat surprising that there aren’t that many later, nonstop options. Especially since it’s not a long flight.
